What we collect
When you install the extension, it generates a random identifier on your device (not tied to your name, email, or Google account) to track your free daily usage. We don't ask for or require any account to use the free tier.
- Selected text. When you click "Explain," the highlighted term and a short snippet of surrounding text are sent to our server to generate an explanation. This is not stored beyond what's needed to generate and return that explanation.
- Anonymous device identifier. Used only to enforce the free daily limit and, if you upgrade, to link your subscription to your device.
- Email address. Only collected if you choose to upgrade to Pro, via Stripe Checkout, to manage your subscription and send you a receipt.
- Anonymous usage analytics. We log anonymous events (such as "an explanation was requested") via Google Analytics to understand overall usage. These events are not linked to your name or browsing history.
What we don't do
- We don't read or store your general browsing history.
- We don't sell or share your data with advertisers or data brokers.
- We don't access page content beyond the specific text you highlight and choose to explain.
Third parties we use
Anthropic (generates explanations) ·
Stripe (payment processing) ·
Resend (transactional email) ·
Google Analytics (anonymous usage analytics)
Your choices
You can uninstall the extension at any time, which removes your locally stored device identifier. To cancel a Pro subscription, use the Stripe customer portal link in your receipt email, or contact support@greaterfool.app.
